Camels have long been a huge part of Qatar’s heritage. In ancient times, the majestic animals were used as a means of transportation for those wishing to travel long distances through the desert, helping Qataris explore the peninsula and trade routes along the way.
They also had a huge significance in terms of religion. Camels were heavily used by travellers to spread Islam in different regions across the world, given the animal’s great tolerance to harsh climates.
To this day, animals are still a huge part of the Qatari culture. Camel breeding is very common in the region, especially in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and many also use them for sports, such as camel racing.
